cBrain is nominated for DIGITAL EUROPE’s Future Unicorn Award

cBrain has been selected by DIGITALEUROPE – Europe’s largest trade association representing the digitally transforming industries – as one of the 17 nominees for its annual Future Unicorn Award. cBrain is one of two scale-up from Denmark to have made the prestigious shortlist.

“We are very pleased by this recognition as we progress our European and International journey to create more accountable, trustworthy and transparent government institutions through digitalization. Our e-government offset is the concept of the digital bureaucracy and our standard software platform – modelled, build and co-created - with the Danish public sector. As an example, looking into the “decade of action" on fighting climate change digitization is our best – if not only – tool to close the time gap from political decisions to actual execution. Our climate software for government is part of solving that challenge”, says director of Global Affairs at cBrain, Niels Tanderup.

The Future Unicorn Award celebrates Europe’s most promising tech scale-ups

Running for the fifth year in a row, the Future Unicorn Award celebrates scale-ups from across Europe that have the potential to become the future European tech giants. The shortlist is compiled in collaboration with DIGITALEUROPE’s national trade associations, representing the digital and technology sector in 29 European countries.

According to Digital Europe, this year, 17 truly inspiring companies from 14 European countries were shortlisted. The nominees come from a variety of sectors, including digital health, smart mobility, e-learning, aerospace and e-government.

 What this means for cBrain

The Danish public sector is a leader internationally in relation to digitization. Over the past 4 years, Denmark has ranked number 1 on the United Nations' global E-government list and currently Denmark also ranks number 1 one the European DESI index for most digitalized European countries. cBrain has been one of the key partners in the digital transformation of the Danish public sector.

Niels Tanderup emphasizes: “The nomination gives cBrain recognition for our work and role in e-government, as well as a window to show case our potential in deploying our software platform for government at high speed and very cost effective. We believe the days of big IT and standalone systems are over and that the tech industry - as all other industries - is looking into a future of standardized solutions that can be copy and adapted across countries lowering complexity for government, users and the cost of digitalization.

Why European unicorns matter

“Unicorns” are scale-ups valued at over one billion dollars. In the modern economy, digital companies get exponential advantages as they scale, as their economic value also rises. Unicorns are usually a good indicator of who will likely become a future tech giant.

The Future Unicorn Award is a great opportunity to showcase aspiring European scale-ups that have the potential to become future unicorns, highlighting that Europe has what it takes to become a digital leader. According to a statement from Digital Europe, today, approximately 12% of the world’s unicorns are based in Europe. While this is a significant growth compared to only 6% in 2014, it is nowhere near enough. DIGITALEUROPE has set a goal for Europe to become home to at least 25% of world’s unicorns by 2025 among its success indicators for digital leadership.

We at cBrain are enormously excited about the nomination, and look forward to Digital Europe announcing the winner.

The winner will be announced by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, on 3 February 2022 at DIGITALEUROPE’s flagship conference Masters of Digital.
