cBrain has won a tender in Kenya. cBrain will provide a national digital platform to support extended producer responsibility and the circular economy.
Circular economy, reduced plastic pollution and extended producer responsibility are important areas in the global climate agenda, and areas that more and more countries and the EU are working on.
cBrain must provide a digital solution that supports the entire value chain, including registration of all actors, payment of material and waste taxes and payment of subsidies to the actors who ensure recycling. At the same time, the new digital platform will be able to deliver national market figures for the circular economy, including volumes and recycling.
The new platform is based on cBrain's standard software F2, which thanks to the technology can be quickly configured to support the relevant processes in an efficient and transparent way, which is absolutely crucial for the ambitions of reduced pollution and increased recycling to become a reality.
Climate software for authorities is an increasingly important element in cBrain's growth and export strategy, and in the summer of 2021 cBrain began building a dedicated unit to support the investment in climate software. As part of this work, cBrain has increased its commitment in relation to the global climate agenda, i.a. with attendance at COP26 in Glasgow.
The agreement underpins cBrain's international commitment and initial success as a provider of climate software to government agencies.
Kenya is working on new ambitious legislation that introduces extended producer responsibility in Kenya to promote a circular economy with more recycling and less waste.
The new law means that all companies that sell goods in Kenya are held responsible for the waste their product creates. In practice, this means that all companies have to pay a tax on the packaging (plastic, glass, cardboard, aluminum, etc.) that is introduced in the Kenyan market.
At the same time, a full value chain is established, which supports the circular economy from producer to recycling, introducing payment to the actors who ensure the collection, sorting and recycling of material.
As a supplier to i.a. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency cBrain has built up expertise and a broad portfolio of F2-based solutions, which support the authorities' work in relation to climate efforts.
cBrain calls this type of solution “climate software”, and by supporting the rapid digitization of regulatory processes, cBrain can contribute to climate efforts, including both nature restoration and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The agreement with Kenya is therefore important for cBrain. It gives cBrain a strong position as an EPR provider (the international term for "Extended Producer Responsibility"), and cBrain has a hope that the new digital platform for Kenya will be able to be used in other countries, as countries are introducing legislation in this area.
The solution for Kenya must be delivered as a cloud solution. This substantiates that the solution can easily be exported and recycled in other countries and regions.
